When further doing the internet research for the more travel information on the Wall, you will feel a little surprised that there are many “Great Wall” around Beijing and a bit frustrated at how to choose the best “Wall” to hike.

#1 Mutianyu Great Wall
Pros: Less crowded, three ways to get up and down the Wall, wonderful scenery favored by international travelers, senior and kids.
Cons: No direct bus or subway to get there

#2 Badaling Great Wall
Pros: The Great Wall extended in many directions with magnificent views, easy direct access by bus and train, favored by domestic tourists.
Cons: Crowded, more domestic tourist groups.

#3 Jiankou Great Wall
Pros: Original without restoration and revamp, overgrown, rundown, challenging for hike, favored by experienced travelers.
Cons: No public transport to get there, no security guide on the Wall, not officially open to the public.

#4 Huanghuacheng Great Wall
Pros: Original with some restoration and revamp, some places still overgrown, rundown, challenging for hike, favored by experienced travelers.
Cons: No public transport to get there, no security guide on the Wall, some places not officially open to the public.

Pros: Beautiful pass, nice views, the nearest section of the Great Wall around Beijing, favored by those who have limited visiting time in Beijing.
Cons: Restored and reconstructed for the most part

#6 Simatai Great Wall
Pros: Original, unrestored, steep slope of the Wall with nice view.
Cons: Used to be favored by international travelers. But now Simatai Great Wall is bound with Gubei. Water Town targeted at high-end market, losing the favor for experienced travelers. No direct bus or subway to get there.

Pros: Original, unrestored, overgrown, favored by experienced travelers.
